12 noon & 4.00pm GUIDED TOUR OF HISTORIC SOMERTON WITH BOB HARRIS

Bob Harris has become one of our Festival regulars, leading a guided walk through our lovely ancient hilltop town (ie we leaned on him yet again!!). As usual, Bob will be making a couple of changes to the walk, and will describe the buildings in and around the town centre based on the original walks led by the late Alan Overt Locke, which are available on a 'Guide Yourself' tape. This promises to be another fascinating insight into the way things were in days gone by in Somerton, with tales of some of the fortunate and not-so-fortunate people who have passed this way.

Meet at the gates to St Michael and All Angels Church Tickets £4.00

THE MUSICIANS
Retro A highly versatile and professional duo, featuring two of the West Country's most experienced musicians. David has been playing guitar and singing in bands since his teens. He has moved around the UK a lot and that has meant creating a number of successful gigging bands, including bands in London notably Klik. Michael lived in Cornwall, Scotland and is now Somerset bases. Music has always been an essential part of his life - from the 70s with the South West based Raymond Kaye show band to Bacharrat, a resident quartet backing cabaret nationally.
Somerton Festival Band The Band has been busy over the past year and is always available for fetes, functions, concerts etc. Phil Lambton is the conductor of the band and is very keen to welcome new members. The Band rehearses on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall in Somerton.

Country Music Duo "Double Dealin", with Rod Baker on Keyboard and Mike Farmer on Guitar, have been around long enough to know how to keep an audience entertained and create a happy atmosphere with their particular brand of popular music laced with a country flavour. Even outside music you get double everything with Rod and Mike - the Baker is a farmer and the Farmer works in a sawmill!

1.00pm TONE VALLEY JAZZ BAND

The band was formed in 1959 by a group of local musicians living in the Taunton Area. These days, although some of the original members are still playing, they live in different parts of the South West but are still dedicated to the cause of keeping the band going. The band mainly performs in the South and West of the Country, South Wales with occasional trips to France and particularly Paris for weddings and special events. The Tone Valley Jazz Band has appeared on television, radio and also in films in different guises. The music has always been aimed at the general public, easy to listen to, with melodies that everyone knows and good foot- tapping rhythms. As our ensemble are now entering their forty eighth year, with not a gold watch in sight, they would like to thank the producers of cask conditioned ale for their success and hope, with the right blend of ale and good living, they will make their goal of fifty years.

Don't worry - you'll meet your friends and neighbours, young and old. This popular annual event will showcase music, readings, maybe some drama, and certainly a listening ear and prayer if needed. 7.30pm KENNY BALL & HIS JAZZMEN

50 Years of World-Class Jazz!!

Kenny Ball was born in 1930 in Ilford, Essex and began his musical career as a sidesman in various bands before forming his own band in 1958. Moving away from the traditional repertoire, the band sought out good tunes and gave them the "Kenny Ball" treatment and achieved a string of hits in the 1960s including "Midnight in Moscow" which reached No 2 in the UK and US charts and had worldwide sales of over a million copies. Continued success with "Samantha" and "When I'm 64" made Kenny a household name. He has produced over 20 albums, received a Billboard magazine Gold Microphone award and can even claim more Top 30 hits in the US than Louis Armstrong! He is also an Honorary Citizen of New Orleans.
One good measure of an artist's success is his durability, and after 50 years, Kenny Ball is still going strong and is widely considered to be the leading jazz trumpeter this side of the Atlantic.
