9.00am JUNIOR SCHOOL WORKSHOP with COLIN JOHN

Colin John has been involved with the world of Magic and Mystery since 1958 when he was given a David Nixon Magic Outfit for Christmas. From that moment the fascination developed and in 1969 did his first "professional" show. Colin realised that the entertainment world was changing and people wanted more than just a Magic Show for their child's party so a few years later added Punch and Judy, puppets, workshops and even a children's disco to his repertoire. The workshop theme has continued and Colin has added to his armoury since then and now does eight different workshops.

There will be the opportunity to learn a variety of paper craft techniques throughout the day including rubber stamping, embossing, cutting, layering and punching. Come and find out what to do with sticky ribbon, outline stickers, CD's, embossing stencils, Die cuts, 3D tape and more! 10.00am - 6.00pm ART & PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

2008 marks the 20th Art Exhibition in Somerton. The standard of entries last year was amazing, with every subject being tackled in a variety of media from oils to pastels - which goes to show how much talent we have in this part of the world. We confidently expect that this year will be just as rewarding. So, if you have never exhibited before and would like to enter a piece of art, entry is open to all. Entry forms (to be returned by Monday 8th July) are available from the London Cigarette Card Co shop in West Street or Margaret Somerville (tel 01458 274594)
Since 2001, photography has also been included, so if you're a keen beginner or an established photographer and have taken a picture (film or digital) that pleases you, then have it framed and enter it!! All visitors to the exhibition are asked to vote for their favourite in the two categories and there will also be the option to sell your work.
Last year we had an amazing 750 visitors (thought to be the most ever) to browse and take in the talents of local people. There were 193 exhibits and 21 were sold. We also had some 3D work such as pottery and wonderful embroidery, so if you have some hidden talents please feel free to share! So last year was, once again, a great success and many thanks are due to the artists and their friends who gave up their time to man the desk, help with building the stands and contributing to the smooth running of the event. We shall need volunteers again this year, so do please do your best to give a little time to help us out.
Exhibitors' entry forms and information are available from the festival ticket office. A charge of £1.00 will be made for each entry.
We would point out that most of the exhibits will be for sale and this is your opportunity to acquire a piece of original art by a local artist.
The exhibition will be open for five days so you will have plenty of time to pop in and vote for your favourite in the People's Choice Competition.

7.30pm NUMEROLOGY - A TALK BY COLIN JOHN

"I had always been interested in horoscopes, prediction and the "other side" but never gone over the line as such. I had started doing numerology in about 1989 as part of an "after dinner" entertainment and it was relatively successful, but that's about it. It all really started in December 1999. I was sitting at my computer, browsing the net when I was chatted to by a female and her girlfriend on-line. She had discovered, by reading my on-line CV that I was into Numerology. She told me that she was called May and lived in Sheffield and was very much into the psychic thing and quite often got messages. May asked me to do a numerology reading for her and her mate. I used the basic formula I always used to assess their characters but she asked me to describe what they looked like. I was stuck now, I had nothing to go on, no clues whatsoever. What could I do? The only thing for it was to talk my way through to save my credibility. This is what I did, not quite knowing where I was going, but using what I thought from goodness knows where. I first used the numerology form I had designed to give a basic bit of good old bluff. I went on to describe them both with words that seemed to come into my head, character assessment and unknowingly opened myself up and was in contact with my guide who took over and did the features for me. It was all over. I had done it. Now, the verdict, she told me I was absolutely correct. May then told me she had been told to look for someone with my Christian name and then told me, which blew my mind, there had been a woman with them in the room who she described. The description matched that of my deceased mother."
A very interesting talk, which should keep people spellbound.

8.00pm BLACK JACK DAVEY - A NIGHT OF BALLADS, BANTER & BLARNEY

Cheeky, passionate, spontaneous - these are all words used to described Black Jack Davey and his map cap one-man show, which includes folk and acoustic rock as well as stories, sing-a-longs and joke-telling. Davey sings old songs from Ireland and contemporary songs from all over the world with tunes played on six different instruments including guitar, bouzouki, mandolin and bodrhan. These are separated by tall tales, jokes and more. This is not a show for the faint hearted and definitely not a show to be missed. www.blackjackdavey.net

8.00pm THE ALTER EAGLES with support band RHYTHM BROTHERS

A Tribute to one of the world's greatest bands

Gigging for nearly three years, rehearsing for nearly a year before that, six strong-minded musicians, someone else's repertoire, pubs, clubs, theatres, grubby rehearsal rooms, cramped studios, a trailer-full of gear and more opinions than you can shake a Stratocaster at. A recipe for disaster?? Oddly enough, no!! Instead, The Alter Eagles are going from strength to strength, inspired by a common purpose - to produce the finest and the most authentic tribute to the Eagles that anyone has ever seen. Their show includes all of the Eagles' biggest hits, including "Hotel California", "Life In The Fast Lane" and "Take It To The Limit" as well as some of the ban's most powerful ballads like "Desperado". There's also room for key solo numbers like Don Henley's "Heart Of The Matter" and Joe Walsh's classic "Rocky Mountain Way". Each song is genuinely faithful to the original and that's what the band reckons sets them apart.

Support band for the evening is the Rhythm Brothers: Singer guitarist Danny Shayler is joined by Andrew Bull playing drums / percussion and singing the backing harmonies. The Rhythm Brothers are fabulous live offering a fresh, modern sound rooted in blues and jazz. They are also very entertaining characters, enjoying a laugh and a joke both with each other and their audience.
