SOMERTON SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL 2009
JULY 10TH TO 18TH
The Somerton Summer Festival is organised by a small committee of unpaid volunteers and its aim is to provide a wide range of quality entertainment at an affordable price for the local community. For the last three years, in order to be able to attract larger audiences to some of our events, we have erected a marquee on the Sports Field at Gassons Lane, and I’m pleased to say that this has been very successful, in spite of the additional costs involved. During the 2008 Festival we entertained more than 2800 people at ticketed events in the marquee, at St Michael’s Church and in the pubs around the town. In addition we entertained many more people at the Market Fair and the Funday, in spite of the weather being not quite as we might expect in July! Also, the Art Exhibition attracted over 800 visitors during the week.
Over the last twenty years the Somerton Summer Festival has become one of the major events in the Somerset calendar and part of its success is due to the sponsorship and advertising given by local businesses. Without this generous support we would not be able to produce what we hope is a very entertaining and enjoyable time for everyone.
