THE MUSICIANS
Harry Browns of Bristol
Back by popular demand from last year’s festival. For the best in shanty and songs of the sea, the Harry Browns are shipshape and Bristol Fashion. They come from the historic sea port of Bristol and their name is taken from a battered old sand dredger which used to be based in the old docks. Their repertoire includes traditional shanties, many of which have origins in Bristol and the West Country, but also contemporary songs, which have maritime connections.

Retro
A highly versatile and professional duo, featuring two of the West Country’s most experienced musicians. David has been playing guitar and singing in bands since his teens. He has moved around the UK a lot and that has meant creating a number of successful gigging bands, including bands in London, notably KLIK. Michael lived in Cornwall, Scotland and is now Somerset based. Music has always been an essential part of his life – from the 70s with the SW based Raymond Kaye Show Band to Bacharrat, a resident quartet backing cabaret nationally.

12 noon & 4.00pm GUIDED TOUR OF HISTORIC SOMERTON WITH BOB HARRIS

It was with great surprise that Bob Harris learned that there are still people in Somerton who have not joined him on his guided walk through our lovely ancient hilltop town. Moreover, there are those who have joined the walk but missed the opportunity of a fascinating talk by Don and Eileen Puddy about the Old Bakery and baking in the last century. If you are among those unfortunate few then there will be another opportunity to join us on Sunday.  Each group size is limited to 20 and so it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment. The walk starts promptly at noon or later in the afternoon at 4.00pm from the cobbled area outside St Michael and all Angels church. Thanks again to Esther Locke, Brian Tiffin and Don and Eileen Puddy for their help.

6:30pm SUMMER CELEBRATION

God gives to different people exciting gifts which include the abilities to make wonderful music, astonishing pieces of art, amazing dramatic productions, and the Arts Festival celebrates all of these as the artists come together to delight us with their gifts. But we also have an opportunity to thank the one who gives the gifts in a special Arts Festival Summer Celebration, which takes place on Sunday 12th July from 6:30 until 7:30pm in St Michael’s Church, Somerton. Please join the Christians from all the Churches in Somerton as they gather to praise and celebrate the wonderful gifts God gives us and of course praise the giver.

8.30pm JULIE DUNN with RENTO D’AIELLO

Popular West Country based singer and pianist Julie Dunn.."relaxed, understated vocals which recall those vocal giants of my childhood yet caricature none of them" .. returns to Somerton Festival with widely acclaimed saxophonist Renato D'Aiello, an artist who "showcases one of the most attractive and affecting tenor sounds in contemporary jazz. Recommended." Unwind to beautiful ballads, irresistible swing and gutsy blues accompanied by mellow latin grooves - think One Note Samba, Ipanema and many more, with a few punchy originals thrown in. 7.30pm PHIL DANDO BIG BAND

Big Band Evening

The Phil Dando Big Band and Singers was formed in 1992. The band’s library consists almost entirely of original arrangements by veteran trumpeter Mike Blake. The musicians, drawn from South Wales’ finest, are all devoted to keeping the big band sound alive. Phil, himself, spent three years with the legendary Syd Lawrence Orchestra, deputised regularly with the B.B.C. Radio Big Band and occasionally, when not fronting his band, plays with the Nick Ross Orchestra. Singers, Andrea Harrison and Brian Crane, complement the band with Andrea leading the band’s vocal group as well. If your musical taste encompasses the classic sounds from the big band years, the Rat Pack, and more musical greats from a bygone era, then this is a concert not to be missed. See www.phildandobigband.co.uk
A selection of Bar-B-Q meats and vegetarian options will be available 1 hour before the start of the Event and throughout the evening.
