ROUNDABOUT PLAYGROUP WORKSHOP with JENNI DUTTON
In conjunction with Take Art, Jenni Dutton will be going to the Playgroup for 2 sessions Monday and Wednesday to build a den in the outdoor play area. Using her own work and children’s fascination as stimuli, Jenni will enable them to explore their creativity using paint, clay and mixed media, or wood and willow in den makings. She will use drawing throughout as a way of recording the children’s thoughts and ideas and allow stories to grow alongside the visual outcomes.

7.30pm SOMERTON FESTIVAL BAND CONCERT
The Band play a wide repertoire of classical music, novelty items, music from Broadway and West-End shows and compilations of music from popular American writers and performers such as Duke Ellington, Sinatra, Hoagy Carmichael and Leroy Anderson. In 1995, after a break of quite a few years, John Stone was asked by the Somerton Summer Festival committee to reform the Somerton Festival Band. In 2004 the baton was taken over by Phil Lambton upon his retirement from RNAS Yeovilton, where he had been Bandmaster of HMS Heron Volunteer Band.
During 2008 the Festival Band continued to thrive well and had a busy time playing around the local area at a variety of engagements. Phil Lambton has continued to conduct the band, and is very keen to recruit more players. They have vacancies for clarinet, flute, trombone and trumpet players but anyone would be welcome. Just to remind everyone, the Band rehearses on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall in Somerton. They would love to see more local people involved with the Band so if you are interested, either in joining the band or to book the band for an engagement, please feel free to contact Phil Lambton on 01963 362219. We are looking forward to our annual concert for the Arts Festival this year, and hope our programme of music will suite all tastes and promise to get the feet tapping!!!! Don’t miss out on a good evening’s entertainment – get your tickets early!

8.00pm UK BEE GEES with support band MIS-SPENT YOUTH
First time in Somerton – a fantastic tribute!
UK Bee Gees Formerly known as The Bees Knees, The UK Bee Gees are the most realistic tribute to the Bee Gees that you will ever see or hear. As the trio appear on the stage you can just feel the air of amazement by the audience. The UK Bee Gees have gone to great lengths to be certain that not only is the music very accurate, but that they look and act every inch as the Gibb brothers. All the great songs, the harmony voices, the look (modern or 70s / 80s style), the mannerisms and the dry humour all are faithfully re-created. From the first opening song of You Should Be Dancing, all the way through the romantic ballads such as How Deep Is Your Love and finally into the fantastic disco film tracks such as Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive, you can be forgiven for thinking that the real Bee Gees are there with you. The members of the UK Bee Gees have worked together since 1990 and have performed all over the world, including Europe, the U.S.A and Asia. They regularly host sell-out concerts in the U.K. and abroad and have performed at many of the top international venues and hotels. See www.ukbeegees.com
Mis-Spent Youth is a 5 piece band (Vocalist, Drums, Bass, 2 guitars) based between Glastonbury and Axminster, playing covers from 60's through to now. Mick on vocals, Al on drums, Tim on bass, Ade on lead guitar and Tony on rhythm guitar are playing the songs that we hope you remember as well as we do (or better!). We enjoy ourselves, and hope that you will as well (and no, we don't play the Birdie Song!!!!)
A selection of Bar-B-Q meats and vegetarian options will be available 1 hour before the start of the Event and throughout the evening.
