Introduction

The Association enjoys a membership of 127 from the trades, professions and retailers of the town. Formed in 1983, it aims to improve and promote the trading and commercial interest of the Parish of Somerton, and to create and foster goodwill and friendship among business and trading people of the town.

Becoming a member

Membership is open to all business concerns, whether sole, partnership or company, having premises within the Parish of Somerton. Meetings

There are meetings every two months to which all members are welcome, and from time to time visiting speakers are invited. The Association has a committee member appointed to monitor activities of the Town Council and also the District Council. Projects

A ‘Visit Somerton’ page has been set up on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram in conjunction with The Somerton Business and Trade Association. This is to enhance the digital presence of Somerton online.
The opportunities for this is to help promote the businesses under the SBTA banner, but also to promote events and important dates, which will be used to help drive people into the town. click here for more information

Annually, the Association undertakes a special project aimed at the betterment of the business community. The Somerton Shops and Services Directory for 2023/2024 was produced in January 2024 and has been delivered to over 12,000 addresses in the local area.

In February 2007 an updated version of the Somerton Tourist Leaflet was published and 92,000 copies were printed, then in May 2009 a further revised version was printed (50,000 copies). In 2013 another revised version was issued. This also made possible due to support from The Somerton Town Council,  Somerton Tourism and Heritage Partnership and South Somerset District Council Area Development Group North. A new revised edition was printed for 2023

The Association also sponsors various activities, including the town’s very successful Christmas decorations and sponsoring event(s) in the Somerton Summer Arts Festival, which takes place in July each year.

Members Discount

Members can also receive a 10% discount off the price of adverts placed in The Conduit Magazine and 10% off selected adverts in the Somerton Sentinel Magazine.

Notice Board

The Association has a notice board situated in the Brunel Shopping Precinct. In it you will find an up to date members listing under their appropriate business headings with a street map giving their location.
