End of Tour

End of Tour

That is the end of the tour of Somerton, I hope you have learnt a lot about some of the historic landmarks around the town, and hopefully this knowledge will further improve your enjoyment of the town and its beauty.

As we have said, this tour is not a complete history of the town. If you would like to know more about some of the town’s history, then we recommend the audiotape tour of the town that is available for hire. This is provided by the Parish Council, and is narrated by the late Alan Overt Locke. The tape not only guides the listener through the history, but also gives stories and anecdotes related to each landmark.

Also the book by the Somerton Women’s Institute, made for the Millennium entitled ‘The Story Of Somerton’ is a very detailed resource that is well worth purchasing. This book as well as the audiotape is available from the District Offices and the Buttercross Tearooms. If you have any comments about the site, or you have more historical facts you would like to see added, please contact us.
