ACEARTS’ NOVEMBER EXHIBITION MARKS 100 YEARS SINCE THE END OF WW1 Opening on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, ACEArts’ November exhibition, ‘A Century of Silence’ by Jon England, reflects upon one hundred years since the cessation of the First World War. The exhibition explores three key cultural filters - silence, memorial and the poppy - through which we relate to incomprehensible or inexpressible events now beyond the memory of any living individual. The works have all been created in poppy seeds, one of which, Seeds to the Wind – Duty? Honour? Freedom? Sacrifice?, is a representation of the Somerton Memorial which stands outside St Michael’s Church. The piece was commissioned for the Museum of Somerset in 2014 and has been kindly loaned by them as part of this exhibition. The exhibition runs on the following dates10th, 13th to 17th and 20th to 24th November from 10.00am to 5.00pm, with a Private View on Friday 9 November 6-8pm and a talk by the artist on Saturday 17 November 10:30am – 12:30pm. Nina Gronw-Lewis, Curator of ACEarts, commented, “The 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War is a time to reflect, and we are honoured to have the exhibition opening at this time.” ACEarts (Art Care Education) moved into the Old Town Hall permanently in September 2016, and it is being used as a gallery and workshop venue with exhibitions sponsored by The Stepping Stone Group. It was a finalist in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2017 and in the Somerset Business Awards 2017 in the categories of ‘New Business of The Year’ and ‘Charity of The Year’.
